United Methodist Committee on Relief

Due to the significant disasters in the U.S. and world, tornados, floods, hurricanes and all the suffering survivors, the mission of the month for December is UMCOR.

UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR is active in over 80 countries, including the USA. UMCOR provides humanitarian relief when disasters, either natural or man-made affect a community’s ability to recover on their own.

UMCOR, a ministry of the United Methodist Church, believes all people have God given worth and dignity and does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

UMCOR provides local relief, disaster response training and provides long term recovery to victims of disaster. UMCOR is the parent organization of UMVIM (United Methodist Volunteers in mission). UMVIM sends trained volunteers into the recovering areas as early responders, during the initial relief period. These ERT’s (early response teams) muck out, tarp roofs, clear grounds of debris and offer emotional and spiritual support to the survivors. UMVIM is also responsible for assistance with long term recovery teams.

Currently there are numerous active disaster recovery areas in the USA alone. UMCOR spends 100 percent of designated funds on projects donors specify. Donors join UMCOR as the hands and feet of God.
